Not All Chocolates Are Healthy!
It’s nice to hear that chocolates are healthy. However, let me tell you that what most Americans eat is NOT the type of chocolate that has been given the nod by doctors. Only SPECIFIC chocolate might render health benefits.
Well, it’s easy to say that chocolates lower your blood pressure and prevent premature ageing. And it’s even easier to gobble a bar after hearing the good news! But, here is some bad news too – the popular brands available in the market are hardly the ones that the doctors are talking about!
Â
Which Chocolate Is The One?
It’s DARK CHOCOLATE that’s getting the attention of medial researchers all over. A study was conducted on some participants. They were given dark, white, and milk chocolates and were examined every day.
It was found that dark chocolate is packed with antioxidants known as phenols. They are natural compounds present in cocoa bean. They are found to raise the level of nitric oxide, reduce formation of blood clots in arteries, and prevent LDL cholesterol oxidation (means they reduce bad cholesterol).
Cocoa is not just a raw material for chocolate; it is a sort of boon to medical science. It alleviates blood pressure, decreases cholesterol, and shoots up insulin sensitivity in your body. Thus, it has enough health potential to keep researchers busy in experiments for years!
Forget White And Milk Chocolates!
I repeat; it’s ONLY dark chocolates that are healthy. So, if you want to stay away from obesity, fluctuating blood sugar level, or other disorders, drop those white and milk chocolates like a hot potato!
Do you know that white chocolate, no matter what brand, contains NO COCOA? It is made entirely from cocoa butter, which is actually the FAT extracted from cocoa beans! There are no phenols and no health benefits in them.
And remember, if a chocolate is dark in color, it doesn’t mean it IS dark chocolate. Most of the dark colored chocolates you eat are made from “Dutched†cocoa. What is that? Well, the manufacturers treat the cocoa beans with alkaline solution to render the dark color and mitigate the natural bitter taste of the cocoa plant. But this treatment snatches about 90 per cent of phenols from the chocolate, thus, rendering it just a treat; no health benefits.
The milk chocolates are utterly useless in terms of health. The milk contained in the chocolate prevents the absorption of phenols by your body. Thus, you are only adding sugar and fat by eating such chocolates.
So, the next time you bit into a chocolate bar, think again!
